I love to paint birds and animals. Each creature may appear the same, but I see them as individuals.
I see their personalities first before their form, and I enjoy bringing that personality to life as if I were painting a portrait of a person (which I also like to do BTW).
There is no other way for me to approach my art than through the unique and personal ideas and concepts that form within me, waiting to spring out onto the substrate.
I just love seeing colour as value – where the dark and light is. So, it doesn’t matter what the colour is, if the value is right, it will always make sense.
Playing with colour is a joy. I know a magpie does not have pink and blue and orange and green in its plumage, but this is my approach, my point of view. It’s “Anna’s magpie”!
Following intuition and trusting it. Bringing in the principles of design and value and colour harmony. Discerning as you go.
Taking risks. Knowing when to stop. Learning to see the vibrancy in life. Continual learning.
“Authenticity” is an overused word, but it says it all. My number one priority when painting is that I am in love with what I am doing, and I am painting first and foremost from my heart and soul.
The artwork will contain my unique expression, and this will bring about a connection to others. Those people who connect are my market.
