Artist Jessie Hartwig-Boutkan

Jessie Hartwig-Boutkan is a self-taught figurative artist who paints predominantly with acrylics on canvas, in her home studio.

Having set out from Sydney’s Northern Beaches on a modern-day expedition around Australia with her young family, they came to live on Wadandi Boodja, Margaret River, Western Australia. It was here that Jessie took part in the Margaret River Art Auction and won the Emerging Artist 2023 Prize.

In February of the following year, Farbe Studio was born where Jessie’s practice is shaped by a love for country, by a love for people and by the steady rhythm of bush poetry and folk music.

Jessie’s paintings are her witness, a record of the urgency of belonging in a country of scarce sentimentality and aloof natural beauty, released in small series’ of figures, animals and attire.  Brandished in colour and bathed in negative space, Jessie’s art bids you to recall the familiarity, the simplicity, the harshness and humour that the Australian landscape and culture holds.
