Jasmine Forcadilla
Jasmine Forcadilla, a Central Coast-based Australian-Filipina artist, was born into a family of creatives and has been exposed to the arts from a young age, always finding solace in the act of creating. With a background in digital media and fashion, she is constantly fascinated by pop culture, the fragility of trends, and the art of storytelling.
As a โmestizaโ (person of mixed race), art serves as a way for Jasmine to explore and reconcile with her own cultural identity, a theme often reflected in her work. Her ongoing โSpirit Animalโ series draws inspiration from the beauty of individuality and the complexities of identity. Her art is playful and often satirical, capturing the imperfections of humankind through irreverent nuances and personified animals.
Influenced by films, eclectic interiors, and fashion, Jasmineโs paintings explore the intricate balance between species and identity. This is particularly evident in her interpretation of โTherianthropy,โ the Greek term for "animal-headedness," which she uses to symbolise the diversity and uniqueness of the human experience.
